During the summer of 1997, I traveled with a friend across Europe and Russia. On May 19, we landed at Heathrow in England with a ticket to Alaska for August 15 from Khabarovsk, Siberia . We did not know how we were going to get there.

Along the way, we stopped at Internet Cafes in several cities. Collected here are the updates I sent friends back home and pictures I took along the way. My first message, from Dublin, Ireland, was a simple "I'm still alive" note. By the end of the trip, I was writing frequently and extensively, making full use of my Russian Studies minor. Except for fixing some minor grammatical errors, I have left the journals as originally written.
