+ 1 - 1 | § Biking with the Baby

We love to ride our bikes.  It was particularly nice when we lived in Hamburg, because the city and culture are set up for bicyclists.  Since we returned from Germany, we've hardly ridden our bikes at all, largely because of Jenny's pregnancy and the presence of a new baby in our lives.

However, now that Douglas is a year old, we can take him on the trails with us.  Last weekend was our first ride with him.  We had to get a helmet for him, which is difficult because his head is smaller than the helmets sold by any of the local stores.  Fortunately, Jenny found a local doctor who gives away children's bike helmets, and he had one small enough for Douglas.

The second need was a bike trailer.  After considering very expensive options from the local bike shops, we ended up getting the Columbia Bike Buggy Trailer and Stroller Combination.  Our goal was simply a bike trailer, but we got a two-seat jogging stroller for free!  Of course, it's a huge stroller, but it works.

So anyway, we got all the gear together and headed out to Grant's Trail for a bike ride.  It was great to be riding with our little guy, and to know he was safe in the trailer with a helmet.  He absolutely hates the helmet (it's as though it is made of Elvish rope), but being in the moving trailer makes it a lot better.

We're going to try to ride as much as we can before winter hits.
